I liked this better than the first book. I was more happy to hear from all the different POVs and I felt each character was more equally developed. It was also very nice to see some familiar names and the origin of some of the things (e.g., warlord of Seiiki, the dragon riders, why Inys has the Priory protection ) we see in the other book.
There were more moments here when I felt heartbroken by a character's ending. For better or worse, some things did not hold intrigue because you know what the world looks like in the future from the other book. The ending was better than the first book, but still a little rushed.
True to the high fantasy genre, it still takes a while to understand and be immersed in the world - I had to take notes of characters and what region they were from.
