The Prince of Prohibition by Marilyn Marks

4.0

This book is not at all what I thought it would be (in a good way!) I went into it totally blind, just the way I like, and I was not disappointed! Don't let the pink cover fool you, it may be cute and gilded on the outside, but this book had some deliciously dark parts to it.

Adeline is a human that grew up in a sheltered conservative town in Georgia in the early 1900s. At 20 years old, she moves to NYC with her brother in search of more opportunity and a fresh start. She very quickly gets caught up with a group of people who are not at all what they seem. Wealth, power, parties, bootlegging, morally gray MMC, and magic.

This book completely filled my brain while I was reading it, and even when I wasn't reading it. The time period, the place, and the magic system are all so different from other books I have read. I didn't give it the full five stars mostly because the book ends on a cliffhanger and I was left with more questions than I would like. But it is still a fantastic read! I highly recommend!
