oh, i found this book to be a push and pull in the best way. i knew that this book was gonna hit too close to home, and it most definitely did. i think that this was the mental health memoir that i wish men have called her crazy had been. this book was a rollercoaster in the way that felt so real.
i think this book is exemplary of the autism spectrum disorder. there were parts i related to and parts i didn't, which i think is beautiful. there's something to be said for someone who doesn't shy away from the dark parts, and the writing of this made me feel seen in ways i've felt in other books that changed my life.
the conversation on person-first vs identity-first language is one i had in my disability studies classes, and hearing her talk about it the same way i do is very validating! i know that a lot of disabled people feel similarly, but i really liked her take on it. i loved the way she narrated; it felt like how my inner dialogue sounded as a child. i didn't get my autism diagnosis until like two years ago, so knowing that other people feel this way really helps validate my experience.
