I knew this book was going to be powerful, but I underestimated how strong it really was.
It's broken into two parts. The first occurs in 1949, the latter occurs in a more modern Gaza (2017 is when the book was originally written). I personally found the 1949 half more intriguing, but this means little when the entire work was so meaningful and deep. The latter, more modern narrative was intense and heartbreaking, a testament to suffering and trauma.
A quick warning: there mentions of and allusions to violence and sexual assault, as well as descriptions of bombing and occupation forces with weapons and without mercy.
I recommend this one, but it is intense, and the reader should be aware of that going into this.
