House of Secrets
by Darcy Coates
TLDR: Quality work and lovable characters, but not necessarily horror.
Overall, I really enjoyed the characters and seeing how they progressed. Sophie and Joseph's characters remind me a lot of Jane Eyre, which is maybe why I might like it more than the average person. I noted in my review of the first book of this series that Joseph's character felt inconsistent. However, the events of this storyline clarify the reason for most of this. (It is a spoiler, so I will not note it here.) My love for the romance between Sophie and Joseph really kept me the most captivated throughout the whole series.
While I devoured these books very quickly, my main criticism of this series is that I don't feel it necessarily fits into the horror genre. The Grimlock is creepy, Elise's behavior is terrifying, and the presence of ghosts and resurrected corpses are dangerous, but it isn't horror. I would, rather, classify these books as supernatural fiction or even supernatural romance.
