A book on writing well should be written well, and On Writing Well is written well. William Zinsser models how to do it right. He also provides examples from some of the best writers in the American tradition of short non-fiction. Zinsser starts out with the techniques of good writing, mostly be demonstrating them. Then, as the book progresses, he expands into how to write in different genres and situations. While these chapters may not be specific to every writers goals, they effectively take the reader into the mind of the writer. In a way, half the book is about how to write well, and half of it is about how to think like a writer.
