Blood of Tyrants by Naomi Novik

3.0

Naomi Novik's biggest weakness as a writer is plot. These Temeraire novels are all over the place. Characters come and go, settings change suddenly, story arcs are rushed, and nothing connects. These novels are lumpy. I've learned not to read them for plot. Fortunately, Novik is great with characters. Spending 400 pages with Temeraire and Laurence are worth it no matter what the faults with the story. These characters live and breathe. I'm sad there is only one Temeraire and Laurence novel left. I'll miss them.
