American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins
5.0

“That these people would leave their homes, their cultures, their families, even their languages, and venture into tremendous peril, risking their very lives, all for the chance to get to the dream of some faraway country that doesn't even want them.”

I could not put this book down. I cannot stop thinking about it when I'm forced to put it down. It touched me so much that I had to read more about specific locations, terminologies and events that happened in the book.

PRO: easy to read, relevant topic, engrossing with characters you want to root for.
Not recommended for: readers looking for the history of cartels
recommended for: readers interested in one hell of a ride (or should I say hike) through the fictional lives of immigrants who don't have anywhere else to go but to American Dirt.

Ps: read the author's notes if you want to talk about the controversy
