The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss
5.0
I LOVED this book. It's one I frequently recommend because I have coworkers that always recommend it so I thought it was time I read it myself. I thought it was brilliantly done. I really enjoyed the style with Kvothe telling his story to the Chronicler. The past and present and foreshadowing was the right balance and has me excited to read the second book.
This is the kind of book that I love losing myself into with it's magical world of fantasy and suffering and triumph over adversity. The "sympathy" sorcery with it's combination of thermodynamics and quantum theory and voo-doo was clever and believable. It combines elements of fantasy, wizardry, romance, relationships, action, suspense, mystery and even a dragon.
Kvote's wonderful then tragic childhood endeared me to him as did his heroism, naughtiness and awkwardness.I read this almost 700 book over 2 days and it didn't feel long at all because it was compelling and easy to read. It's definitely an excellent choice for Harry Potter fans who are looking for something that's a step up in sophistication and maturity.
