Circe by Madeline Miller

5.0

This was such a stunning read. I will never tire of Miller's writing, I truly admire how she crafts her stories. I loved Circe as a character, I loved both her strength and her gentleness. My heart ached at how desperately she wanted to be loved or accepted only to be wronged or abandoned over and over. Such a beautiful feminist perspective and so creatively woven together. I loved how it interweaved with other stories and every character felt so vivid in my mind. I flew through this book and yet I finished it feeling I had lived many lifetimes. I loved how Circe's narrative voice matures throughout the book, the beginning feeling like such a different perspective to the end but in the best way. It's such a beautiful parallel to so many women's lives both past and present. It is such a skill to both honour the inspiration and sources of these stories whilst also making it feel contemporary and relatable and Miller does this so wonderfully.
