A powerful exploration of trauma and culture and love. Moth is trying to come to terms with the horrific accident two years ago that took the lives of her parents and her brother. Now living with her aunt, Moth drifts along largely unnoticed as she struggles with survivors’ guilt. When she meets new student Sani, there’s immediate attraction, but also a mutual hesitancy. As the two teens try to help each other navigate the holes in their lives, the spare and beautiful language can keep readers at arm’s length. Ultimately, though, that only enhances the dreamlike quality of this very unique story.
