In Her Highlander's Bed by Lynsay Sands

3.5

"Sword, scabbard, blood, pain."

Yes, our heroine is a virgin. So when her future mother-in-law chooses to "educate" her about what to expect on her wedding night, these four words are all she remembers and it becomes a mantra. He's going to put his sword in her scabbard and there will be blood and pain. LOLOLOLOL. I was dying! Little did our heroine know, her cinnamon roll Highlander Laird, had already gone to this same woman, his MOTHER, to ask her how he can make their wedding night less painful for his lass. He's never bedded a virgin before and he's SO SCARED TO HURT HER and put her off sex forever. The cutest.

I don't read a lot of historical romance from this era because it tends to run darker, with more misogyny, abuse of women, etc. This one had a little of that, but it was off the page, and there was a lot of humor and sweetness to the story.

The male narrator did a great job and I quite enjoyed listening to his accent, although I had to slow down from my usual high speed to catch all the dialogue.
