Rotten Tommy: A Horror Novel by David Sodergren
4.5
dark mysterious tense fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Complicated

David Sodergren is a mastermind of horror. He has an incredible ability to blend nostalgia with unsettling terror, taking classic horror tropes and twisting them into something fresh, gripping, and deeply disturbing. His body horror elements are unmatched—few authors capture the grotesque with the same level of vivid, skin-crawling intensity. Hands down, he remains one of my favorite horror writers.

One of the standout aspects of Rotten Tommy is its protagonist, Becky. As a late-diagnosed autistic individual, I found her incredibly relatable. Her perspective is portrayed with nuance and authenticity, making her journey feel all the more compelling.

The book delivers a strong found footage/cursed media vibe, which adds to its eerie, creeping dread. If you’re a fan of that style of horror, you’ll likely love this story. If not, it might not be your cup of tea. But for those who enjoy unsettling, nostalgia-tinged horror with grotesque imagery and a compelling lead, Rotten Tommy is an absolute must-read.
