A City on Mars: Can We Settle Space, Should We Settle Space, and Have We Really Thought This Through?
by Zach Weinersmith, Kelly Weinersmith
informative
slow-paced
“Going to the stars will not make us wise. We have to become wise if we want to go to the stars.”
As someone who probably has a level of interest in Space that might be just ever so slightly over the average level (i.e. basically average), this was a really enjoyable book.
It was very thorough, covering biological, technical, legal, sociological considerations that need to be thought about, while still being very accessible, and light. The Weinersmiths have clearly done a lot of reading around the topic, and talking to experts in the field.
Space is a fascinating, wonderful place but also very dangerous, and there is so much more to learn before we decide to settle there.
Very informative, and there are many fun anecdotes that you’ll come across too. At some points, the humour felt very cheesy and I rolled my eyes - but I get it, it helps to lighten the reading experience when talking about complicated topics.
