It was difficult for me to rate this book because even though it wasn’t necessarily bad i still didn’t really manage to connect with it. The main reason for this is that it is definitely a romantasy and not a fantasy with romance. The story really revolves around the main couple, and the fantasy elements really only serve as a backdrop against which their drama takes place. Again, this doesn’t mean the book is bad, it’s just not for me. Moreover, the fantasy in this book isn’t original in the sense that goblins/fae and the mythology surrounding them are used a lot in fantasy & I just feel like other books utilize story elements like this much, much better. This is also why I am still interested in other books by the author because I do think her writing’s very good, so I hope that in a story where she gets to utilise her own voice more will also help make the story feel unique and compelling.
