A quick review for a quick read. Yesterday, I finally finished the behemoth that was the last book in The Final Architecture series. So, my brain needed a bit of a break. I had this one saved in my library app to read for moments when I start to feel a slump coming on. This is a He Falls First, Brother's Best Friend romance that I really didn't expect a lot out of. It was better than expected. Except the copy the library app had was a bind up of Crave and the next book, Torn, which only came out to about 300 pages. Looking at the page count for the individual books leads me to believe that some chapters of both books were likely taken out for the bind up. So, I assume I was missing some less plot heavy pages for this one which isn't exactly something I love. I almost always think books should be longer so having a truncated version of this one wasn't great. I think the full length novel might have gotten a better rating from me, but it wasn't the version available on my app.
I thought the romance was sweet enough and spicy enough for me without going over the top. I usually dislike most romance book sex scenes because they always dive into kinks I'm not into. But this one had more of a widely accepted range of sex scenes and tropes so I appreciated that. I will say, however, that this one was published in 2013 so when the final act break up happens and everything gets resolved there's a lot there to unpack that I just didn't get on with. Her apologizing at the end for "overreacting" when I thought she had a completely normal reaction to the situation? Doesn't work with me.
Overall, this was the palate cleanser I needed to stave off any sort of reading slump. I still think I need another romance or two before I get into the heavy fantasy novels that are on my June TBR but this was a fast and easy read for me.
