For me, not the best book in the series. It started off pretty slow. For the majority of the book there is a big buildup to a final battle that ultimately felt quite rushed.
I missed some of the more ranger elements in this book, maybe because the plot was more centered around Horace.
I did not like the whole subplot with the girls, it all felt a little forced. The whole jealousy girl drama between Alyss and Evanlyn is just not good. It's written poorly and breaks characters of both girls. They are both intelligent, strong and smart women, not squabbling teens.

keeping in mind this book was written over a decade ago, I still enjoyed the easygoing plots, the humor and the cosy feeling you get while reading this series
