A Lady's Guide to Fortune-Hunting
by Sophie Irwin
edit: After a few months, i can say this stuck with me and i love it. but i won't edit my past review so here it is:
Average Rating: 3.2/5
Katherine Talbot is a beautiful name in itself why change it to Kitty?? I was so irritated but whatever..... I can take anything after Lily Blossom Bloom...
I definitely enjoyed it while reading it, but after I've finished it, I can see a lot of not so great things... Did i like it?? Yes, but it could have been better.

Premise: 3.5/5 Slightly overused, but still a captivating London royalty themed premise. I am kinda obsessed with royal settings, but can you really blame me? :)
Plot: 4/5 Very predictable (-1), but hopeless romantics like me still love it too much
Writing: 3/5 The writing really failed to set the atmosphere, such a shame, with all the magical balls and dances, there could have been so much to say, but i can see how the author chose to focus on Kitty's anxiety rather than London's magic. Still, i am very disappointed in the writing. Luckily i read it with classical music playing, so it quite made up for the atmosphere.
Characters: 3.5/5 My girl knows what she wants and i love her for that. The male lead, too, is not just a rich man with a title, he has *gasp* a personality!! Which a lot of books in this genre lack, unfortunately. I still have one little complaint. Katherine Talbot is a beautiful name in itself why change it to Kitty?? I was so irritated but whatever I can take anything after Lily Blossom Bloom... And Archie, oh my boy, I knew he is there for comedic relief, but still, he is written as a blatantly dumb fool! It's painful to read
Pace: 3/5 Hmm the story and plot itself are very fast paced, but the romance, the romance burns so slow, and I don't quite have any issue with that. But what i do have an issue with, is
Message: 2/5 This genuinely makes me mad!!!!!SO MAD!! There was so much that could be done here, social commentary on misogyny, women empowerment, family dynamics, just life in the victorian era in general, but no, the story is so centered around Fortune Hunting and love.....it's kinda disappointing, but I can live with it, I guess
Ending:3.5/5 Expected but it was fine, afterall, who doesn't enjoy a good ole' happy ending
Would i recommend this book? --yes....maybe.....i know a lot of people might enjoy it
-!SPOILER ALERT!

Description:
After her parent's demise and a broken engagement, the five sisters are left with nothing but a house, a few pennies and a huge debt to their name. To save her sisters from a mounting debt as the eldest, Katherine Talbot, Kitty, needs a fortune and fast. She leaves home to take on London and go Fortune Hunting.
Sophie Irwin takes us to the enchanting world of London, with a wide range of characters, (a manipulative young woman, a intellectual bookworm, a hesitant heir, a slow witted young boy and many more), where whatever you want or need can yours. But not without manipulation, ego stroking and flattery.

My thoughts:
Eh it's fine I guess. I always have high hopes for a Historical Romance, but this was.....well mediocre. I definitely enjoyed it while reading it, but after I've finished it, I can see a lot of not so great things...
Peace
