Lord of Scoundrels by Loretta Chase
4.0

OMG somehow I missed this one in my youthful forays into romance. I could have sworn I had read all of Loretta Chase's old romances, but as I was combing through Goodreads, I stumbled across this and read the summary and realized I HAD MISSED THIS ONE. And this is not a romance to miss!

Jessica is a fantastic heroine. She is confident, outspoken, and aware of how society works. The scoundrel in question, the Marquess of Dain, is definitely a scoundrel, but one who thinks he's horribly unattractive (admittedly he was a very ugly baby and perhaps child) and thus assuming everyone is only interested in his money (n.b. many people are naturally VERY interested in his money). Sparks fly, etc., but wow this was such a well constructed romance. Also holds up reasonably well, even in 2018.
