Failure to Match
by Kyra Parsi
This book was fast, flirty, straightforward, knew exactly what it was, and it executed. It had all the things I want in an enemies to lovers story - angst, biting dialogue, characters misjudging each other widely and gradually learning who each other actually is and gradually falling for them as they learn more + a MMC who gets jealous because he can't figure out how to express his feelings verbally... and then has a messy but heartfelt confession/reveal under a context that removes all doubt about his sincerity .
I also enjoyed the back and forth with Jackson doing nice things (e.g.the cardboard cat palace ) and Jamie calling him out on his mixed signals (see above comment about not being able to express his feelings). I think this is why it was a good call to have the book from Jamie's POV only - but the duet narration in the audiobook really added some nice dynamism.
This was a classic enemies to lovers romcom, complete with very distinct and additive side characters. If you're looking for something realistic, this isn't it. But if you're looking for a well-executed classic, give this one a try.
