Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World by Vicki Myron
3.0
This book started out strong with a warm, inspiring story about a library adopting the friendliest cat in the universe, but quickly became bogged down the author's need to gush about everything in her life - from love of Iowa (ok, you think corn is pretty, we get it), to the incredibly depressing economic history of her hometown (reading about towns that cease to exist because everyone had to leave is just downright depressing), to the worst luck with medical conditions in history (you poor woman and every member of your family). For a book about a cat who became the heart of the library, the author spent an awful lot of time talking about herself and her town. 85% of the book was about the awesomeness of Dewey, and then out of the blue, it all tailspins into Dewey's physical decline and end of days - no time to brace and then the book just ends, no time to grieve. Ouch. Just love 'em and leave 'em.
