The Surgeon's Baby Surprise by Charlotte Hawkes

5.0

Charlotte Hawkes writes medical romance with elan.

The story starts with a prologue where Dr. Maximilian Van Berg, plastic and orthoplastic surgeon, agrees to bend his own rules about mixing business with pleasure to spend a night, with psychiatrist Dr. Evangeline (Evie) Parker, just before he leaves for eight months for Médecins Sans Frontières. This book is hotness from the first kiss itself.

It then begins one year later, with Evie running into Max, a meet she dreaded. Evie is there with her sister-in-law Annie, who will be her living donor for a kidney, after her polycystic kidney disease deteriorated during the pregnancy. Yes, she has a baby girl with Max, who doesn't even know about her existence.

Max's parents had paid her hush money to deny Imogen's existence, without his knowledge. It was heartening to see Evie's brother and sister-in-law's love and care towards her, as well as hearing about their mother and stepfather, how supportive they were when they were alive, a close-knit family, them.

While he didn't want to have a family, due to his parents' behaviour; she didn't want a father like her own for her daughter. But they were parents to Imogen, and that was that.

His unemotional parents had done such a number on him that it was at once heartening and also amusing to watch his first interactions with baby Imogen.

In spite of the medical circumstances, and without a physical relationship, their chemistry was so hot. I loved how Max took such good care of her, and the bond he formed with Imogen.

The scenes of the climax have been written beautifully. The epilogue sums it all up.
