Ain't She Sweet?
by Susan Elizabeth Phillips
I read this a while ago, but had forgotten, so when I started reading it it was like running into an old friend again.
This book is not perfect. The hero is a caricature more than a human, but Sugar Beth, the heroine, is a delight. She's petty and crass and was once a huge bitch, but she's been down a hard road and figured herself out and is now an awesome person. She comes back to the town she fled in her youth and finds no warmth there, only people plotting revenge. She has a mission though and so she holds her head high and gets to work.
The rest of the characters didn't do much for me. I didn't particularly care for Willow, SB's half sister, or Ryan, SB's high school sweetheart, and their marital strife, and a lot of this feels dated, but it still has charm and is a light and breezy read.
