hazmatt 's review for:
The Turn of the Screw
by Henry James
I found this book painful to read. The whole, what, 87 pages? took me two and a half months to read. To be fair, I did open it, read the first page, then put it down for two months, but still. If it hadn't been required reading for an English class I was taking, I never would have finished it. That's just based on the style. James has a way, in this book at least, of making a single sentence take a paragraph, so that by the time you get to the end, you've forgotten what the point of the sentence/paragraph was and you have to go back and refresh your memory. The content itself I found didn't make a lot of sense, and just when it felt like the book was picking up and might actually go somewhere, it ended.
