The overall concept of this book was on point for what I normally look for in a dark paranormal why choose romance. However, I found the plot and characters lacking in depth. Everything seemed face level without really delving into why the characters acted in specific ways.
The FMC, Kierra, shows a very strong personality and deals with very strong physical and emotional abuse over 6 years with her stepfather, but the author leaves us without any clues as to why this is happening. This is an example of the face level but no depth in the scenes.
The Alphas are the usual possessive mine and lust filled, but spice is kept to a minimum with just make out scenes in the most random of situations. For instance, let’s battle to save our lives but let’s have a full on make out scene first-not typical.
There is a cliffhanger ending that did make me want to read the second book though.
I’m really hoping book two explains more and the writing becomes more expansive about the motives behind the characters.
