I had a proper review planned for this in my head. But I just finished the second book in this series, which has me ticked off, and I have a bitch of a headache from binge-watching White Collar (again) so I'm gonna keep this to-the-point.

This book is about a girl named Colby. One day, while she's going home through the woods in the dark (because she's just that smart), she gets attacked and finds out she had turned into a half vampire. But half vampires are considered an abomination by the vamp society so she has to make a case to prove that she deserves to live.

Now, I'm gonna be straight: there's nothing new or deep about this book. The writing is acceptably fine and the narrative is funny, making this an entertaining read.

And that's basically what this book is: a short, light and entertaining read. You won't finish this book feeling amazed or itching for the second book. You'll most likely read it and go, huh, that was kinda fun, and then move on. The book could be quite cheesy and the story is nothing special.

Maybe I'm being a bit harsh (I blame the second book) so I'll say that it did make me laugh and I enjoyed reading it. The protagonist was often annoying but I was able to look past it because she was also the thing that made the book fun.

The main critique I wanted to talk about was the scene when Colby finds out she's undead. It was horrible. Seriously, no one seemed to have any reaction. Colby herself was more concerned about her new pale complexion and how drinking blood was totally gross. I always start a book at five start and that scene made the rating drop straight to three.

Overall, this was a fun read and that's what I recommend it for. But don't read the sequel. I'm not writing a full review for the sequel but I'll give you a non-spoiler glimpse.

Thomas: Hey Colby, you okay?
Colby: *storms off in a rage* *How dare he be concerned! He thinks I'm weak. I'm not weak. Thomas is an asshole! I'm never talking to him!*

That's basically it (it's getting 1 star). Safe to say, I hated Colby. She was always making stupid assumptions, she was self-absorbed, vain, inconsiderate, bratty, about as mature as a 5-year-old, and dumber than a sac of potatoes. Also safe to say, I'm not reading the third, and last, book.

So yeah, you can check this book out but unless you absolutely adore it, I don't recommend the sequel.
