It's so sparse and repetitive in prose, while the picaresque story of the American South feels like a minimalist stage for the cruel behaviorisms of the characters to surface and thrive until they boil over. And yet no matter how high tensions run, there's a feeling of moral complicitude in evil; manifest in self loathing and constant paranoia.
