while the prose is strong, i just found some stretches of this to be a slog. it was like trudging through mud to get through some (not all) of the slow-burn plot and aimless musings through nature. i see the flashes of brilliance that gave this novel all of its accolades, but i also noticed when it gives in to melodrama. i think we could have done with one or two fewer pov characters and been better off.
