*2024 Update -
Very much a slow read and still agree with my original points from 2018. The plot line is slow to start and really only begins to pick up in the second half of the book. Admittedly the world building is needed but it feels like the mortal/fae divide could have been better explored in a more rounded way to allow for the politics and fae world/ plot line to be brought out further. I'm hoping yo actually continue on with the series this time around (only 6 years later so I'm hoping that it did find its feet.)

*2018 Original Review
For me this book started out fairly slow. There was an unexplained relationship between characters that I felt could have been better developed or at least had more of an explanation than what was eventually revealed. However the second part of the book definitely improved my opinions of where the story was going. Some parts I’m unsure of still, however, I’m interested enough to invest in the next book of this series. It’s one of those reads where predicting the relationships and developments is a twisty one in a good and bad way! I’m intrigued to have a new adventure in fae, it’s always welcomed.
