I had forgotten just how incredible this book is! It is amazing that having read it as a child, I found it so profound, resonated so much with Katniss, and thought the political messaging so important, and 10 years later having re-read it, all these things are still true. The writing may not be as strong as the later books and the characters less defined, but Suzanne Collins' world building is unmatched in the YA Dystopian genre. I found myself getting actively involved, and often fearing for Katniss, despite having seen the film hundreds of times and knowing everything that happens, which I think shows just how brilliant this book is. A must-read for everyone, The Hunger Games is the perfect amalgamation of high-stakes politics, stressful action, and gentle friendships and romances.
