Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

I think the way this novel is organized makes it somewhat unsatisfying as a narrative, and there was fairly little plot overall (or at least, it didn't follow a traditional plot structure),  but as a character study, I highly enjoyed this read. Being introduced to Sensei through a student that takes a liking to him but does not truly understand Sensei makes that ultimate reveal about Sensei's past that much more satisfying. I thought this novel did a wonderful job of reflecting on the human condition without being overwrought or tiresome.
