The Prey by Andrew Fukuda

3.0

In some ways I liked this book, and in other ways I didn't. One of the things I really liked about The Prey is unlike the previous installment, The Hunt, it had chapters, however I did find it frustrating that many of the chapters were as short as three pages. The story itself was enjoyable, following on from the previous book this one follows the main characters as they continue their escape from the Duskers and seek other humans. However, the human community that they find made me rather uncomfortable. I recognise it is fiction, and that the whole idea was that there was meant to be something off about the village and it's people, but I just didn't like the whole idea of it. Nearer the end of the book when the village leader explains the reasons behind the aspects of the village it makes sense to the story, but still, I just didn't like it, but in a way I think that was the point of it. Otherwise when it comes to the main characters I felt they had the right reactions to the situation which did make it easier to read. The book ended in a satisfying way that answered a question that has been presented early on and leads on to what will no doubt be an important part of the plot in the final book of the trilogy which I do look forward to reading.
