How We Survived Communism and Even Laughed by Slavenka Drakulić
4.0
How we survived is a compelling and personal snapshot of women and communism in Eastern Europe. The power in the writing comes from the humanity of the women in each anecdote and less so on the author sometimes reaching to make a point. If Slavenka Drakulić focused on perhaps 3 or 4 of the women she wrote about and offered more than just a cursory glance into their lives, I think How We Survived Communism and Even Laughed could have been an absolute must read.
