Rising Tides
by Nora Roberts
The second book of the Chesapeake Bay Saga followed my favorite of the Quinn brothers, Ethan. He's the strong, silent type, who works with his hands and is 100% reliable. His love story with Grace is really fantastic. This series as a whole is a little grimmer than some of Roberts's other fare. The story touches are some dark subjects, like rape, child prostitution, abuse, and abandonment. The backstories for the Quinn brothers are all pretty rough. However, Roberts uses those stories to contrast with what they have become. There was a really fabulous scene in this book where Ethan realizes that he is his own man who has made his own way, completely separate from the tragedy and darkness of his childhood. While our past shapes us, it does not define us, and it was great to see Ethan go forward.
Definitely looking forward to book three!!!
