The Wonder
by Emma Donoghue
Oh my god, this book was sooo slow and repetitive and boring. And it had the most ridiculous and unnecessary romance subplot EVER. It made me angry. Like, we're at the end of the story and she's supposed to be trying to SAVE THIS GIRL'S LIFE and instead she's thinking about how this guy kissed her last night. Come on.
80% of this book was just recycling the first 2-3 chapters over and over and over. Nothing new happened until the very end. The "twist" at the end, or whatever you want to call it, was okay but by then I had no good will left to give. Too little too late.
I listened to the audiobook and the narrator, while very authentic I'm sure, didn't help. Super thick Irish accents throughout the whole thing that were difficult to penetrate. I cannot recommend this to anyone. Huge disappointment when Room was so freaking incredible.
