The Tombs of Atuan by Ursula K. Le Guin

5.0

life affirming. i still think of this line - “she cried for the waste of her years in bondage to a useless evil”

such a potent exploration of ideology, organised religion, unfaith and its struggles, liberation and how the work never ends there. its about healing and darkness and light. and it amazingly gives a thorough anthropological view of the culture of the tombs and the Kargish lands as a whole. I love how Ged isnt a main character in this, but acts as a friend and supports Tenar slowly, allowing her to see beyond what limits her agency. & I love when he tells Tenar that what she will find when they leave is “kindness and silence.” My favourite so far
