The Keep

Blarghhhh
I read this because a lot of my favorite authors look up to this author and I can see why. The author is prolific and seems to totally fit the bill of what I imagine young male horror readers enjoyed reading in the 70's and 80's.
That said, this annoyed the everliving shit out of me. The female main character's boobs are described as unashamedly coy in her first scene. It does not get better from there regarding writing female characters.
The drama is overwrought, the love story is completely superfluous, and there's also a German soldier whom we're supposed to find sympathetic and relatable because he didn't join the Nazi party.
What a fuckin chore. I get it, this was probably great 50 years ago, and I tried really hard not to let the anachronisms get to me, but nah; sucks.
