I can absolutely see why so many people love this book, but I think it’s just one of those stories that wasn’t for me. The writing is beautiful, and the audiobook narration was excellent.
One thing I really loved was how, in each life, the characters transcended every binary, changing gender, race, and sexual orientation across their many existences. It was a thoughtful and refreshing approach.
That said, I just wasn’t gripped. I found myself getting a little bored in places, and I wish we’d spent more time exploring the different lives they lived. Those sections often felt like they didn’t add much to the overall story.
The big revelation at the end also didn’t quite land for me, though I will say the final chapter itself was lovely and left things on a warm note.
