Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

4.0

I wanted to hate this book after the first 5 pages. Nick is the epitome of pretentious, boring writer that says too many things just to say things, like "I was a man of jagged risings" to describe his waking up at such unorthodox times such as 11:51. (the sleeping in until noon should've been a red flag from the start) But then we got to Amy's POV. And the last third of this book happened. And the writing, mercifully, changed. And then it was suddenly the middle of the night before a workday and I'm in bed finishing this book by red LED headlamp and trying to turn pages quietly to not wake my lovely wife sleeping next to me.

Pacing was (obviously) good, Amy was absolutely brilliantly written, and I see why this one laid the bones for so many similar thrillers after 2012. Nick still has zero redeemable qualities tho.
