A Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers

5.0

This is a Hugo award winning novella that I would definitely not pick up on my own to read, but I'm so glad our book club selected it this month. I would categorize this as a sweet, lovely sci-fi although most people don't think of sci-fi as sweet and lovely. The two main characters are a tea monk and a robot. It's a story about kindness, friendship and living in harmony with nature. It also brings up the question of purpose and whether having a purpose is really necessary for living a fulfilling life. Dex, the tea monk, is nonbinary, so it took me awhile to get used to the usage of they, their, them, etc, but I eventually did. I loved the ending of this sweet story, and I'm looking forward to reading the second book.
