When I say I am so glad that I have finished a trilogy, I have never spoken truer words. I have dragged myself through this whole trilogy hoping that maybe I won’t hate the next one but alas, it wasn’t to be apparently. The Queen of Nothing is the third and final book in the trilogy and out of the three books, I think I rank this book second for enjoyability. Just to clarify, that did NOT mean I enjoyed any of them.

After being exiled by her husband, Jude is in the mortal world and trying to figure out a way back into Faerie and get her revenge (as always). Her twin sister Taryn presents her this opportunity and she cannot help but take it. In Faerie, not only is she fighting to stay alive through deception, but she is also having to fight her feelings for her husband.

Oh boy, where do I even start. As per usual, don’t like Jude. I still think she’s just an angsty trying to be dark and cool and edgy girl but that’s the same from the first two books. I also don’t like the romance between Jude and Carden. Like I mentioned in my book review for the first book in the trilogy, I acknowledge that it’s an enemies to lovers but its just “I hate you cause you did something so incredibly toxic” to “lets kiss and have sex and that previous thing I did? No I didn’t, you love me.” My head hurts from how much I rolled my eyes in this book.

The actual plot of the book was very meh. To be honest, it all felt so rushed and as if they were trying to lie up all the loose ends and untangle all the knots that the first two books tangled together. It was messy, rushed, and overall just not very enticing or hooking. Majority of the book, there doesn’t even feel like there’s a plot, and by the time I was two thirds of the way into the book where a plot actually appears, I was bored and just speed reading to get this over and done with.

Usually, Holly Black has some decent plot twists, as cliché and cheesy they always seem to be, but in this book, there were attempts at some plot twists, but they were so predictable. The solution at the end of the book? Yeah I figured that out immediately when the problem started. And at the beginning when she’s trying to get into Faerie? Again, so incredibly obvious. It was disappointing and frustrating to say the least. Like girl come on, Jude is meant to be smart and calculating yet she also seems to have air in her head during times where it actually matters.

I think the whole book wasn’t great but the ending… HA. The ending was honestly laughable. Once again, very rushed and incredibly underwhelming. If you’re looking for a fight/action scene in this book, because I feel like a lot of this book was trying to build us up to one, just throw the book away cause I’m literally still looking for it. Either it was so badly written that I didn’t even notice it happened, or it was just stupidly short. All of that build-up only to finish like that meant that the book felt so pointless and underwhelming.

In addition to that, the epilogue was so cheesy and to be honest, you might as well have been reading an epilogue about brand new characters who you’ve never even seen in your life. I will also point out that, though random answers were being thrown at you throughout the book to quickly tie up loose ends, you are still going to finish the book with questions that still aren’t answered. However, I admit I don’t really care enough about the characters or the book enough to worry about getting those answers.

All in all, a very weak ending to an already weak trilogy. It was rushed and predictable and still, I didn’t feel emotionally connected to any of the characters unless you count me hating every single one of them (maybe outside of Oak who literally does nothing but be there I guess). I think I can say with finality that I will not be picking up another Holly Black book again and this trilogy will be donated to a charity shop.
