the last wish is essentially a collection of short stories about geralt’s backstory. if you’ve seen season one of the witcher, it’s essentially this book.

it wasn’t a bad story, it just was a writing style i think i need to get used to. i’m also not a fan of the whole “women are constantly assaulted to help further the plot along” kind of thing that is going on here, but i hope that’s just because this was the first book. i enjoyed seeing more of what is going on in geralt’s head. he’s such a sucker for the underdog it’s almost funny. he’s so much more sarcastic than i ever could have expected.

overall i didn’t *love* the book, but i didn’t necessarily dislike it either. i’m definitely going to keep reading the series, mostly because i want to actually meet ciri in literary form lol.
