Wow, I loved this installment! It was much more of a character study than the other two, which some may have found boring, but learning more about Locke and the GB’s young adult years was so fun and endearing. This book was also the funniest out of the three by far, the antics made me laugh out loud sometimes! The rivalry was entertaining, Jean and Locke are still my favorite friendship ever, and finally we get to meet the elusive Sabetha! What a wonderful character, everything I was hoping she would be. Surprisingly to me, she is not a well-loved character by a lot of readers. She is Locke’s match in many ways, clever, dramatic, self-sabotaging. I think a lot of people put her up on this pedestal because of the way Scott Lynch has built her up as this mysterious love from Locke’s past, and were disappointed to find her an entirely human character who has big flaws and makes a lot of mistakes in this book. That is my favorite part about her! She is not the manic pixie dream girl there to complete Locke’s perfect romance, and she never will be. While I don’t agree with some of the things she did in this book, I can’t wait to see how they play out in the next one (if we ever get it). Please please please don’t let this be another unfinished fantasy series!
