Back in the Burbs by Tracy Wolff, Avery Flynn

So firstly I really enjoyed this. It was a sweet story and I felt like it ended on a good note and the third act break up was somewhat reasonable, despite being short lived. But secondly overtly elder millennial authors need to employ more/ better editors because this had some horrifically cringy and icky moments that can only be explained by being millennials — and I say that AS a millennial. The rest is kind of spoilery so.
I really wish we got more at the end; of the mcs actually together longer, of the dirty divorce, of the three women living together, all of it. That was when it got really interesting and the author just sped right through all of it and suddenly they were broken up Jk immediately back together and also her family moved out expeditiously.

I also understand these are older people, but she’s 35 ffs not 50. The choice to make her get divorced, start a new relationship, move in, and get pregnant to the point that she’s GIVING BIRTH in the epilogue — aka they were together less than 3 months before she got knocked up — is especially heinous. I get that she’s wanted kids and he had his own trauma and blah blah blah. But can we please promote relationships where you actually spend time as a couple before you bring a whole ass child into it??? This was a good example of selfishly choosing to have a child.
anyways despite my rant about all that I did still very much enjoy most of this book and without those facets it would’ve easily been 5 starts.
