Heiress Without A Cause: Muses of Mayfair #1 by Sara Ramsey

5.0

I stumble upon this book on Netgalley half-expecting it to be a book for teenagers, yet I decided to give it a try. I was wrong on so many levels, and in a very good way. I had never read Regency literature before, and as an introduction to the style, this book proved to be particularly good. In a day and a half, I finished the first two books of the series, and I am longing for the other two to be published.

I liked the fast-paced action, the improbable situation with which the plot really starts, the clever dialogues and the romance. It is well written, the characters give a very good insight into Victorian life without lacking personality. The Muses of Mayfair are indeed an interesting lot, and I loved discovering life in Victorian London.

The ingenuity of the plot keeps the reader enthralled and I found it extremely difficult to put the book down. With clever and unexpected situations arising all the time, carefully distilled romantic scenes, Heiress Without a Cause is a nice change from the usual bland romance found in so many books. The cleverness of the characters, their personality makes for an excellent read, and I am looking forward to reading more of the adventures of the Muses.
