Wow, this was such an intriguing plot. I couldn’t put this book down! Emmie has a paper to write about one of the most psychotic kings of all time, Nick Tudor. She knows his sister dies at age 8 and he goes on a killing spree for a very long time and lived a terrible life because of it. Emmie is very much into jewelry making so, one day, she bought a ring from a nearby “crazy lady” neighbor that had a yard sale going on. She slept with the ring on and woke up in the late 1500s. She was blasted and assaulted by King Nick’s guards for trespassing. Nick seems to immediately take a liking to all of her differences: lingo, clothes, etc. therefore Nick did not appreciate his guards literally beating her up and treating her that way. Almost immediately “touch her you die” vibes from the start.

She thinks that now she has this power, she can possibly rewrite history and save his sister. Lastly, she sees the good in him and hopes to bring out the good in him and divert history away from him being a brutal notorious murderer. She had no business doing that but she did just that. It was super cool to see her go back to her time and Google what’s changed.

Fav quotes:

“"Oh, don't be ridiculous; you're the King of England, for crying out loud. He stepped closer to me, his hands shaking as much as his voice.
"You truly believe my every desire is granted? That I know not the agony of yearning for what I cannot have?”
His skin fushed pink, his hands clenched at his sides. Our faces were inches apart.
“Like what, Nick? You've got jewels beyond belief, a palace out of a fairytale, the most perfect princess I've ever seen, enough gourmet food to feed an entire country, people waiting on you hand and foot. What on earth could you possibly want that you can't have!"
He grabbed my collar and tugged my mouth up to his, our lips connecting like burning magnets.”

“You know I cannot offer you coaches that move without horses, and structures turning through the sky," he said. "I cannot give you the New World or the new London, but I can give you me. My whole heart. There will never be another again, and forgive me for ever
asking that of you."

“I was almost asleep when soft fingertips stroked a gentle line down the side of my face. A second hand met the other to cradle my checks in a nest of warmth.
"Emmie? Do not be afraid," said a deep, velvety voice.
"Your garden door was unlatched."
My eyes burst open. Nick's clear-green pupils were inches from mine, glistening with emotion. He smelled incredible.
Tears sprang to my eyes faster than my heart could beat as he dropped his forehead against my own, his breath heavy as he sighed.
"My miracle, Emmie. You cannot believe my relief."
"Is this a dream?" I was utterly breathless.
He pulled back, his brow creasing as a desolate look overcame his face.
"Please…I need your help at once."”
