White Hot Kiss by Jennifer L. Armentrout

The main heroine Layla is pretty much the star of the show, there isn't too much world building or focus on anything other than her. It gets a bit old quite quickly, and you wish that she would step up and be this strong, one of a kind badass she's made out to be, but low and behold she just cries a bit and gets saved by everyone instead of doing much herself.

Something I wasn't too keen on was the slut-shaming and the use of derogatory terms. There are barely any female friendships, and every female that Layla encounters seems to be her enemy and a slut because they're sexually active or have an interest in men?

There is a love triangle, but it feels so weak. Roth seems to have all the attention in the respect that he's the only one she can physically be with because of her abilities. It feels like Zayne is a bit weak in terms of being open and explicit with his emotions - just tell Layla you like her!

Overall though the book is still enjoyable. There was some good banter and humour throughout, and the plot was somewhat interesting despite being semi-predictable. I just wish there was more action and more focus on world building and character development than the copious amounts of flirting and lack of gargoyles in their true forms.
