As a Greek woman, I found the retelling of some of the mythology to be questionable. For example, Athena did not give Medusa the snakes to punish her but to protect her from men. I understand, however, the retelling the author chose better suited the narrative of her book.
For a feminist book, it portrayed women as weak and powerless which was not the case in Ancient Greece! Women in Minoan and Mycenaean civilizations were integral parts of society with prominent roles.
The author claims to have a fascination with Greek mythology yet doesn’t have a clear understanding of it. It’s sad to see the stories we were brought up with twisted for the sake of selling books. Mediocre at best.
