essentiallynovel 's review for:
The Women in the Castle
by Jessica Shattuck
I don’t normally read historical fiction. Actually, I hardly do, but when I saw this one on BookOutlet, the premise sounded intriguing so I chose to borrow from the library. I’m glad I did because it turned out to be a dud for me. Hardly any of the book follows what its description is about, the women are mostly unlikeable, and though things felt rushed, the book itself felt too long. Content includes sexual abuse (nothing explicit), animal brutality, violence, suicide, and some profanity.
