just started to get weird vibes. reading such a black-centric racial book from a white author just doesn’t feel right
also, she uses a narration style reminiscent of backman’s beartown where he kind of refers to the towns thoughts/opinions from the “we” perspective, but instead of flowing naturally like it does in his writing it just feels awkward and gimmicky when fowler does it, at least partially because she uses it too liberally and sometimes in places where it doesn’t make sense
